Remodels, additions, and the occasional custom home.
Grain Build & Wood is an owner-operated general contracting shop in Minnetonka. I take on remodels, additions, and kitchen & bath projects across the Twin Cities west metro — from a single bathroom refresh to a whole-home renovation. One person to call, start to finish.
One contractor. Three main buckets.
Most of my work is remodeling existing homes and adding onto them — projects where the scope ranges from basic to custom. For clients who want an integrated design-build process on their remodel, I can bring in a trusted architect or designer and run the whole thing under one contract.
Remodels & Additions
From a single room refresh to a whole-home renovation. Bump-outs, primary suite additions, second stories, and full gut jobs.

The rooms where craft shows most. Stock cabinets to custom millwork, basic tile to slab stone — I scale the spec to your budget.

I take on the occasional new-construction project when the site, scope, and timing line up. Not my primary focus — but available for the right fit.
Learn moreThe person who quotes your project is the person running it.
I’m Seth Dickenson — owner and operator of Grain Build & Wood. Most general contractors in the west metro send one person to bid the job and hand it off to a project manager you’ve never met. That’s not how I run things.
I walk your home, write your quote, schedule your project, run your site, and sign your final punch list. When specialist work is needed — framing, electrical, mechanicals, cabinetry — I bring in a small bench of subcontractors I’ve worked with for years. My name stays on the contract from first conversation to final walk-through.

Every project gets the same basic sequence, whether it’s a $20k bathroom or a $400k whole-home remodel. The shape doesn’t change — just the depth of each step.
Walk-through
I come to your home, see the space, and give you a candid take on scope, a likely cost range, and a realistic timeline before any drawings are made.
Plan & Quote
For most remodels, a clear scope and a fixed quote. For design-build work, I bring in a trusted architect or designer and we develop drawings and pricing together.
Build
I run the site — daily. Weekly walk-throughs with you, a shared photo log, transparent change orders, and clear communication when anything shifts.
Close-out
A real punch list. A final walk-through. An owner’s manual of every finish and fixture. And the statutory Minnesota contractor warranty on the work.
What you get when there’s no office between us.
Big firms have their place — but most west-metro remodels don’t need one. Here’s what changes when the person who quotes is the person who builds.
Honest quotes, fast.
No markup layers, no PM overhead, no sales team. I look at your project, I tell you what it costs. If it’s a bad fit for me, I’ll tell you that too.
One person, one phone.
You call me. I answer. Every question, every change order, every “quick thing” goes through the same person who’s been there from day one.
Scaled to your project.
A basic bathroom remodel doesn’t need a design-build firm’s overhead. A whole-home renovation might. I scope my process to the project in front of me.
Home base in Minnetonka — serving the west metro.
I intentionally stay close to home. It means trucks and deliveries are never more than a short drive from the shop, and I can be on your site within a day if something comes up.
